The memorial is in León, Guanajuato, México, in Parque Hidalgo with an area of 480 m2.

The concept of this memorial is the duality between life and death, meaning there is no life without death, and when someone dies, he just goes to a better place, this memorial is for giving consolation to relatives who lost someone because of COVID-19.

This project is planned to create an atmosphere where people can feel a connection with their relatives who unfortunately lost their life because of this disease, using a set of volumes.

The heights of this volumes are 2 m, 2.5 m and 3 m, all of them are cubes that represent that everybody has the same destiny, which is death, but these elements have different dimensions relating that every person lives it in a different way.

The floor plan is a representation of the Mayan cosmology of the cosmic tree, the tree is the focus point and represents duality, it is represented as the cosmic tree, which in Mayan civilizations is represented as the connection between life and death.  within this there are volumes of 3 different sizes, also there is a tree in the center that divides the cubes in two sides with 12 cubes in each side. The memorial will use a material in one side and other material on the other side to maintain the duality, 12 cubes will be of stone and the other 12 will be of concrete. There are 2 water mirrors to generate a reflection between the 2 sides of the volumes and feel even more that connection.

Through a peaceful environment the project pretends to generate a personal impact where people who visit the memorial feel a connection with the place and a memory of their death relatives.

This project would generate consolation to the community because there will be reflected the memory of people who died and will not be forgotten, it will be a show of respect. As well the site will work also as a place of reflection to all those people that have not understand the seriousness of this situation.

As this pandemic is a historical event it must be remembered so the memorial must be a permanent intervention of the site.
