Concept: Is inspired by the structure of a hive. The hive has several cells, each panal is an important role: to take refuge, to store honey, to divide its population, etc. But if there is something that stands out, it is the union. It is when, by studying these small insects, we understand the importance of the union and the importance of the activity of the other. Each bee is a fundamental part of being able to build its home, and that is how we draw inspiration from its union, because, in the face of the pandemic situation, to stand united, work and think about others, we manage to move forward and rebuild our home, rebuild our hive.

Why a memorial to the covid in Mexico? On 27 February, Mexico confirmed the first infection caused by the new coronavirus. In a matter of months, the life we knew ceased to be the same. Today the memorials are much of the history and, despite this, many are forgotten because of their simplicity, lack of conservation or loss of attraction due to the urbanization of their surroundings. Our project doesn’t just seek to be a memorial monument in its surroundings, but to be a space that is remembered from here on and that its design, shape, materials and essence itself make it always remain a busy place.
The project will adapt to the environment where it is located with different concepts among them a lighting system since the project has holes in its walls, which will allow the space to have natural lighting, in addition to adding artificial lights so that the essence of Cancun at night is not lost, which is that all its buildings are fully illuminated. The shape and gaps contained in the space are not only designed for lighting, we know that the project is in a very hot area in which a lot of ventilation is needed, which is why it was decided to create the spaces in walls for the passage of the air and thus keep the place ventilated. Also, the holes help the acoustics of the place avoiding the echo and allowing you to hear the waves of the sea.
The project will provide society with a space dedicated to reflection, as well as a place of identity and respect for all those who died and for the main sectors that were in constant struggle against this situation.
